Durango’s spring season typically consists of snowstorms followed by sunny days where the temperatures get up into the high 50s and 60s. Since the spring weather in Durango is pretty mild you can enjoy riding the slush at Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort one day and spend the next mountain biking, hiking or shopping around downtown. You might want to take a ride on The Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. The train resumes a daily train ride schedule in the spring featuring their Winter Cascade Canyon Train along with many fun additional springtime specialty train rides. Spring in Durango is also filled with lots of fun springtime events and fun things to do.  The Durango Bluegrass Meltdown is a popular Durango spring event held in April that’s dedicated to bluegrass music. There is always bluegrass music playing all over Durango, on stages, in barns, in coffee shops, bars, restaurants, and breweries! Springtime in Durango is a dream, but summer is when the town really comes alive! The beauitful sunny days are just asking for people to raft the Animas, zipline through the trees or spend your days relaxing outdoors near Vallecito Lake...a favorite spot for horseback riding.   You don't want to miss out on summertime in Durango, Colorado!

May 23 - 25 | Whitewater Survival 101- This course is the bare minimum to boaters survival! It provides a path for the river enthusiast to sharpen skills and be equipped with important knowledge to successfully navigate a variety of different level whitewater scenarios. May 24 - 25 | Children’s author Betty Bauer - Betty will read from and autograph her newly-published book "Tamika and Friends" on Saturday and Sunday, May 24 and 25, 2014, at Mesa Verde National Park’s Visitor and Research Center. Bauer will autograph books both days from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., and will give short readings at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. All activities will be held in the Visitor and Research Center bookstore located just off Highway 160 at the Mesa Verde National Park exit. May 24 - 26 | Iron Horse Bicycle Classic - It’s almost that time: Registration for the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic officially opens on December 3, 2013. Though the event won’t take place until Memorial Day Weekend (May 24-26, 2014), early registration is essential. Last year the IHBC sold out in a matter of days, some race categories within 13 hours.

May 30 - 31 | Durango Blues Train - May 30 & 31 and August 22 & 23, 2014. An exciting 3.5 hour moving musical experience providing two consecutive evenings of live blues. NEW FOR 2014 - each night will feature a different group of musicians. You will travel on the Historic Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad’s coal-fired, steam-powered train through the spectacular and breathtaking canyons of the San Juan National Forest. August 22 - 23 | Durango Blues Train - May 30 & 31 and August 22 & 23, 2014. An exciting 3.5 hour moving musical experience providing two consecutive evenings of live blues. NEW FOR 2014 - each night will feature a different group of musicians. You will travel on the Historic Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad’s coal-fired, steam-powered train through the spectacular and breathtaking canyons of the San Juan National Forest. The event features six live blues performances (2 bands and 4 solo/duo artists) in six rail cars with a festive musical environment that promises an amazing experience. Each artist performs in their own vintage coach, while passengers are to free to dance their way from coach to coach and delight in a variety of musical performances.

August 23 | San Juan Brewfest - Held in downtown Durango on Main Ave. between 12th and 13th Streets. Sponsored by Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort, this event benefits United Way of Southwest Colorado.

August 28 - September 1 | Four Corners Motorcycle Rally™ - Ignacio Bike Week™ and the Four Corners Biker Rally have joined together to bring you a bigger and better rally, the Four Corners Motorcycle Rally™. The Four Corners Motorcycle Rally happens all over the Four Corners throughout Labor Day weekend. The Million Dollar Highway through Durango is voted one of the top four motorcycle rides in the country. Durango Harley-Davidson features the Harley demo fleet. There will also be a beer tent with live music and food during the daytime from Friday–Sunday. Motorcycle enthusiasts participate in events which take place throughout the region: Sky Ute Casino, Durango, Cortez, Silverton, Ignacio and all points in between.
