Just how do you say Durango or Mesa Verde?

The ultimate origin of Durango's name is probably from Durango in Spain. Most people say Durango like the "dur" in durable and the "ango" like tango or mango.

Mesa Verde is from the Spanish for "table" and "green". The mesas look like tables, and they are covered with greenery so they are "verde." Mesa is pronounced like "mace", but with an "ah" at the end. So you could saylook at the "mace + ah" and everyone would hear "mesa". Verde is similar to the english word "verdant," meaning green. You could say "ver" like in verge, and add "day" to make "ver + day". Of course it sounds best with proper Spanish pronunciation, but everyone will know what you are talking about if you practice before your visit.
