Durango is a wonderful place to whisk your special someone away to for a romantic break.
With gorgeous mountain scenery as well as several excellent restaurants and charming inns, this lovely Colorado town will relight the spark between you and your sweetheart. Here are some ideas of what you can do during your couples retreat.
Arrive on Friday evening and take your darling out for an evening at the Henry Strater Theatre to see a show. This world-renowned theatre is one of the oldest in Colorado and the historic interior is incredibly charming. Throughout the year there is a great program of concerts, musicals, plays and much more – so check their calendar to see what is playing during your visit. Enjoy a cocktail before or after the show at The Office Spiritorium and enjoy one of the many unique, handcrafted drinks, an exceptional wine list, or one of the many beers on tap.
You can then retire to one of the romantic and charming bed and breakfasts in Durango. For example, you could stay in the elegant Queen Anne Victorian Gable House B&B, on a quiet shady street in a peaceful neighborhood. Or, you could stay slightly out of town at the Antlers on the Creek Bed and Breakfast – surrounded by tranquil forests and rolling green hills.
Start your Saturday morning with a walk together on the Animas River Trail. The picturesque trail starts in Animas City Park and runs for seven miles along the river. It’s a lovely trail for walking and taking it easy while listening to the river flowing alongside.
Take your love on an adventure and ride the rails on the Durango and Silverton Railroad into Silverton. Stroll the historic town, grab lunch and ride the train back into Durango.
In the evening you can pamper your darling with a romantic meal at one of Durango’s fine restaurants. The Mahogany Grille will set the scene with its lavish interior and sophisticated menu. Kennebec Café is another favorite featuring a Mediterranean inspired cuisine, extensive wine and beer offerings and amazing views of the mountains from the outdoor patio.
Spend the morning sleeping in and snuggling – it’s Sunday after all! When you are ready, head for a leisurely brunch.
The historic Strater Hotel offers a delightful Sunday Belle Brunch which features mimosas, freshly made omelettes, buttermilk pancakes, pan seared Rocky Mountain rainbow trout fillet and other mouthwatering dishes.
Whether you and your love are an adventurous duo or just like to relax together in mountains, Durango is your perfect getaway.
