Durango Music

Red Auerbach once said “Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” If your life needs a little dusting, come to Durango, Colorado and ease your soul with live rhythm and sounds.

The music scene in Durango thrives on the weekends, with venues dotting the downtown and surrounding city streets. On any given weekend, and occasionally weeknight, music lovers can hear an eclectic sampling of live tunes, ranging from blues, jazz, rock, bluegrass, classical instrumental, even cowboy ballads!

Durango Bluegrass Meltdown

The Durango Bluegrass Meltdown is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and preservation of bluegrass music as an American art form. Since 1995, the organization has been presenting a unique experience in Durango, the gem of Southwest Colorado.

The annual fundraising event occurs in April and features three unique, intimate main stages, a super jam, barn dance (Durango style), Saturday night Celtdown (for all you closet Celtoids!), and music flowing from bars, restaurants, coffee houses, and downtown streets and sidewalks--all within walking distance. Durango Bluegrass Meltdown headquarters are typically located inside the historic Strater Hotel where jamming where jamming and merriment goes on into the wee hours of the morning, as the cowboys and miners would have liked it!
