Winter Planning GuideDurango's Spring and Summer Planning Guide is your resource for the best Colorado vacation. Durango.com is your information resource for all things happening in historic downtown Durango!

Durango sits at 6,512 feet above sea level and enjoys an ideal four-season climate with moderate temperatures year-round. Durango winters are usually mild and sunny with temperatures staying between 10 and 50 degrees. Despite Durango's snowfall averages about 71" each year, snow removal is manageable because Durango is in a low, sun-drenched valley. Spring brings warmer weather and rain (annual precipitation of 19" per year). Summer temperatures seldom climb more than the high 80s and rivers and reservoirs stay relatively full in summer, filled by melting snow from deep winter snows in the San Juan Mountains. Fall days are comfortably cool and dry, the perfect time for a mountain hike or a drive on one of the area’s Scenic Byways.

Durango, Colorado Weather

Durango, Colorado rests in one of the most beautiful areas in Southwest Colorado. Not only is the climate perfect, but Durango is close to many attractions such as Four Corners National Monument (where Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona meet), Mesa Verde National Park and more.

Nestled in the Animas River Valley provides locals and visitors with an amazing variety of attractions and things to do such as fishing, rafting, jeeping, hiking, camping, horseback riding and ziplining. At an elevation of 6,512 feet, the surrounding areas ranges from pine forests, oak, juniper and aspen trees, rolling green mountains, lush green valleys, 14,000 foot snow covered peaks to low desert floors of fine sand and sagebrush. Unusual rock formations with hues from gold to white and red and shapes varying from tall pinnacles to animal shapes, cactus, yucca, Pueblo ruins offer contrast the the craggy peaks of the San Juan Range. The mountainous areas create their own weather systems in summer, creating brief afternoon showers that are refreshing after the sun has been shining all day.

Current Weather information for Durango is available from the National Weather Service
