Where To Stay
You can’t go wrong with any of the hotels in the area, but if you are only spending 48 hours in Durango, we would recommend staying in one of the many Durango hotels within walking distance of Main Avenue. With limited time and a packed schedule, you will want to be close to all of the action of downtown, and nearby all of the stops you want to make. Convenience is key on a short trip to Durango.
Arrive in the evening and check into your hotel. Get settled in, freshen up and then head out for dinner at one of the great restaurants in Durango. In order to make the most of your time, we would recommend visiting Cyprus Cafe for some mediterranean food. If the weather is nice, you can eat on the patio and enjoy the fresh mountain air.
After you’ve finished your meal, head right next door to Eno Wine Bar & Cocktail Lounge. Sip on some drinks, enjoy the company of your friends and locals alike and take a break after a long day of travel. Depending on the night, Eno may be hosting a variety of events, from themed trivia to open mic nights, to keep you entertained.
The first night is a great time to take a stroll around the city. Enjoy the quiet, quaint atmosphere while trying to spot some of the areas best businesses and attractions. Get your footing in town, map out any stops you want to make and take in the beauty of the area. Take the long way home from dinner and drinks and end up back at your hotel for a good night’s sleep.
Because it is the only full day on your trip to Durango, day 2 should be packed full of activities. Start off your morning bright and early with a big breakfast. There are plenty of great coffee shops to stop at and fuel up, or you could sit down for the meal at a Durango restaurant. We would recommend hitting Bread, a local favorite that recently opened a location Downtown. Once you are full and ready to go, head out and meet up with the Durango Rivertrippers for a day of adventures.
Make the most of your short time in Durango with rafting packages. Combine a rafting trip with another one of your favorite adventures: zip lining. Take on the thrill of the rapids on a four hour rafting trip, enjoy a quick snack and then head to the trees for a zip lining tour. You’ll see the best views that Durango has to offer, both high and low, in just one afternoon. If you are looking for something different, you can even pair a rafting trip with a sunset 4×4 tour of the area as a more relaxing option.
In the evening, grab some natural, delicious foods from Nature’s Oasis to take with you an evening hike. We’d recommend Raider Ridge Overlook, which is a quick and easy one mile trek with breathtaking views of both Durango and Fort Lewis College. Once you’ve arrived, take a seat, enjoy the views and have a picnic. Upon your return to Durango, catch a local event happening downtown, or take advantage of Durango’s beer scene.
