While we would always recommend setting aside plenty of time for your Durango vacation, a quick trip to Durango, Colorado for the weekend is still a great way to see some of the best parts of Southwest Colorado. Spending just 48 hours in Durango, Colorado gives you ample time to try out some of the areas best hotels, restaurants, attractions and outdoor activities. If you are planning a weekend getaway or taking a spontaneous road trip, there is plenty to see in Durango.

Where To Stay

You can’t go wrong with any of the hotels in the area, but if you are only spending 48 hours in Durango, we would recommend staying in one of the many Durango hotels within walking distance of Main Avenue. With limited time and a packed schedule, you will want to be close to all of the action of downtown, and nearby all of the stops you want to make. Convenience is key on a short trip to Durango.

Day One

Evening

Arrive in the evening and check into your hotel. Get settled in, freshen up and then head out for dinner at one of the great restaurants in Durango. You can't go wrong with a grass-fed beef burger and delicious fries from Grassburger. If the weather is nice, you can eat on the patio and enjoy the fresh mountain air.

After you’ve finished your meal, head out for a fun night in downtown Durango. Sip on some drinks and enjoy some entertainment at one of the many live music venues around town. On any given night, you'll be able to find something new to listen to and enjoy. Make a whole night of it and visit a few different venues with different sounds and artists.

The first night is a great time to take a stroll around the city. Enjoy the quiet, quaint atmosphere while trying to spot some of the areas best businesses and attractions. Get your footing in town, map out any stops you want to make and take in the beauty of the area. Take the long way home from dinner and drinks and end up back at your hotel for a good night's sleep.

Day Two

Morning

Because it is the only full day on your trip to Durango, day 2 should be packed full of activities. Start off your morning bright and early with a big breakfast. There are plenty of great coffee shops to stop at and fuel up, or you could sit down for the meal at a Durango restaurant. We would recommend hitting Bread, a local favorite that recently opened a location Downtown. Once you are full and ready to go, head out and meet up with the Durango Rivertrippers for a day of adventures.

Afternoon

Make the most of your short time in Durango with rafting packages. Combine a rafting trip with another great adventure: A 4x4 tour. Enjoy a 3.5 hour 4x4 tour on the Jeep trails around Durango beginning at 8 AM. You'll come back for a quick break at 11:30 and then hit the rapids at 2 PM. Enjoy the rapids and views of southwest Colorado by combining adventures.

Evening

In the evening, grab some natural, delicious foods from Nature's Oasis to take with you an evening hike. We’d recommend Raider Ridge Overlook, which is a quick and easy one mile trek with breathtaking views of both Durango and Fort Lewis College. Once you’ve arrived, take a seat, enjoy the views and have a picnic. Upon your return to Durango, catch a local event happening downtown, or take advantage of Durango’s beer scene.

Day Three

Morning & Afternoon

Wake up bright and early and head to a local coffee shop for a cup of joe and a quick grab-and-go breakfast. Hop in the car and take a quick drive up to Rockwood, where you will board the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad for a ride on the Cascade Canyon Express. This new Durango train route provides a “highlight reel” of the best parts of the railroad. Arrive by 11 am and you will return by 1 pm. This leaves plenty of time to explore the Durango Train Museum before you have to hit the road and head home.

Spending 48 hours in Durango is a great way to get your feet wet in all that Southwest Colorado has to offer. It is plenty of time to experience some of the best attractions and activities in the area.
