Durango Playgrounds & Parks
Durango boasts over 30 parks including dog parks, whitewater parks, sports complexes and more. Santa Rita Park on the Animas River has the best playground for kids in Durango. The paly structure and area is much easier for those using wheelchairs and crutches to enjoy. The area also includes picnic tables, pavillion, restrooms, basketball and more.
Old Hundred Mine Tour
Kids can xperience mining in action at the Old Hundred Gold Mine Tour in Silverton. Guests will ride the mine train 1/3 mile underground and see mining demonstrations using authentic San Juan equipment. Kids can pan for gold, silver, copper and keep the treasures they find!
Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad
The historic railway has been in continuous operation between Durango and Silverton since 1882, taking guests on plush vintage steam locomotives through the stunning San Juan National Forest. The round trip journey will take around eight hours and there are numerous special excursions and themed trips throughout the year. You and the kids will love the sights and sounds of the Durango train.
The Durango Recreation Center
The Durango Recreation Center offers kids a place to play year round. Kids (and kids at heart) can enjoy the giant slide, jumping off diving boards, and floating around the lazy river. There is also an 30 foot climbing wall with staff on hard to offer assistance with harnesses and to belay.

Mesa Verde National Park
One of the UNESCO Heritage sites in the US, the Mesa Verde National Park boasts over 5,000 protected archeological sites and a mind-boggling 600 cliff dwellings. Durango Botanic Gardens
The Durango Botanic Gardens are located at 1900 East 3rd Avenue. The gardens are free and open to the public. Visitors can enjoy taking a walk in nature, exploring the variety of plants, trees and flowers that thrive in the gardens. Special tours of the gardens are available during the summer months. The gardens are constantly expanding with new plants, garden design spaces and more.
