Durango, Colorado is not only a great destination for human visitors – it’s also a paradise for man's best friend. A Good 'ol Dog Walk
Take a walk down the seven mile long Animas River Trail, a scenic paved pathway running alongside the Animas River. Horse Gulch Trail System is another lovely place for a walk and is very popular with dog visitors to Durango and their owners. It's one of our favorites. Dalla Mountain Park is a beautiful popular area which has great pet friendly policies. The trails are well marked and the views are extraordinary. Dogs are allowed to be off-leash as long as they are under voice control.

Float On The Water
Cool off in one of the several great bodies of water that your dog will enjoy. Paddle boarding on the Animas is a great activity if your dog is the adventuring type. Lake Nighthorse is a gorgeous lake right here in Durango with all kinds of fun activities during the warmer months.

Visit the Durango Dog Park, a five-acre area where dogs can run free, frolic and swim in the river. It’s within easy walking distance from downtown Durango, and even closer to one of our favorite pet friendly hotels, the Doubletree. You can park in a lot on the corner of highway 160 & El Camino Del Rio.
Grab A Bite
Downtown Durango is a great place to explore with your dog, and there are several pet friendly patios at restaurants that you can both enjoy. You'll pass by many businesses offering dog treats and water bowls for well behaved canines on the way. One of our favorite places to stop by is Maria's Bookshop.
