An Interview With Colorado Trails Ranch

A dude ranch is a very unique way to experience Durango. Tell us a little about the ranch and what to expect when staying at Colorado Trails Ranch.

A vacation at Colorado Trails Ranch is like a cruise on horseback in the mountains. Our all-inclusive guests arrive on Sunday and progress through the week, departing the following Saturday. We have a wide variety of activities to keep everyone happy and busy…. or just relaxing. The all-inclusive vacation includes accommodations, meals, and virtually all the activities. My staff and I treat our guests as guests in our home. Guests can expect to enjoy superb food, make wonderful friends, and enjoy a huge variety of activities (such as horseback riding, fly fishing, shooting sports, full children’s program, swimming, hiking, rafting and so on) all with spectacular Colorado and the San Juan National Forest in the background.

What are the most popular activities at Colorado Trails?

Aside from the fantastic meals, horseback riding is probably the most popular. The most lasting memories from a stay at Colorado Trails are the friendships formed between the guests and staff.

When you get a chance to enjoy Durango outside of the ranch what do you like to do?

Our guests get an opportunity to go to the Durango rodeo, raft on the Animas river, and a guided trip to Mesa Verde National Park. If guests have their own transportation, there are several day trips such as Silverton, Ouray and Pagosa to visit. There is also the Durango Silverton train, adventure activities such as ziplining, ATV rental, jeep tours, rock climbing, and hiking.

Personally, I love to get out for a day hike or drive. Heading up to Silverton and Ouray is always a great time and there are lots of places to sample great local food. I love to visit all the hot springs in the area, up in Ouray, here in Durango and in nearby Pagosa Springs. Lemon Reservoir and Vallecito Lake are just up the street and great places to visit in the summer and get spend some time on the water.
