Things To Do

Look no further, for you have found the Durango Arts Center and it is here to feed your inner artist! Across from Steamworks Brewing Company on E. 2nd Avenue, The Durango Arts Center, a 501(c)3, is a community theater and visual art space providing inspiration, community, and meaningful engagement at every level. These enriching programs serve all abilities, all ages, all year long.

There is so much for you to do at the Durango Arts Center. From Friday date nights where you can enjoy a beginning clay class and a pint of beer or glass of wine followed by a live theater performance, to summer camps for kids, there’s something for everyone. Season passes are available for avid theater goers and memberships are a wonderful way to enjoy discounts on classes, camps and tickets.

The 200 seat theater is always active with rehearsals, in-house productions, and community events. From the Durango Snowdown Follies to the Bluegrass Meltdown, Durango Independent Film Festival, iAMMUSIC student showcases and variety shows, the theater is abuzz over 300 nights a year.

In the Gallery, rotating local art exhibits refresh every two months. You are sure to find a special gift or piece of art for your home or business. A year round Artisan’s Market provides a unique shopping experience and supports the livelihoods of artist members.

During the third weekend of September, you will enjoy strolling 2nd Avenue while you celebrate three decades of the ever popular Durango Autumn Arts Festival. The most beautiful time of the year offers an opportunity to shop and enjoy the fall colors out of doors. Showcasing the talent of over 100 artists from across the country, this special festival is the largest of its kind in the Four Corners Region, and attracts over 9000 shoppers in only one weekend. This juried festival is a great opportunity for the artists, as well as for local businesses, as it is a reliable economic driver for the downtown. Presented by the Durango Arts Center, the festival focus is on celebrating art, community, and the local economy. The festival is also the DAC’s largest fundraiser of the year and supports programming expenses, the care and feeding of the 17,000 square foot building, and a robust scholarship program. No child is ever turned away for an inability to afford program fees because of a robust, community funded scholarship program.

We welcome you as a Patron of the Arts. You’re invited to reach out to become a member, sponsor, volunteer, or private donor*. You are sure to find meaning, inspiration, community and a friendly, welcoming atmosphere at the Durango Arts Center.

(*Donations of over $200 may qualify for the special Enterprise-Zone State tax credit program. Please provide the last 4 digits of your social security number when donating to qualify for the credit.)
