More About Durango Historic Hotels

The Strater is known as Durango’s living history museum. Built in the Victorian Era, it boasts a unique story of rivalries, hardships and triumphs that have made it into the iconic sight it is today. It holds true to it’s time, with modern amenities to back up the beautiful design and authentic furniture and decorations.

The General Palmer is another authentic Victorian landmark within the city, which got it’s name from General William Jackson Palmer, the Civil War general who built the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge. The hotel is full of antique furnishings in the lobby guest rooms. Each guest room is decorated differently, but all hold true to the Victorian theme.

The Rochester Hotel began as a 33 room boarding house and has been renovated multiple times to it’s current state: a 15 room luxury hotel. Today, you will still find many original antiques and woodwork from previous renovations. Rooms within the Rochester each highlight a Western movie filmed in Durango, further displaying the history of the city to visitors.
