Children under the age of 4 not occupying a seat ride for free with the exception of some special events. Schedule and fares are subject to change.

The standard class steam Cascade Canyon excursions include a concession car on the train serving light snacks. No wilderness access will be provided from these departures.

Cascade Canyon

The Cascade Canyon Winter Train is one of the best ways to experience the beauty of the San Juan Mountains during the colder months. This 5-hour round trip takes passengers from the historic depot through snowy mountain scenery alongside the Animas River before arriving at Cascade Canyon for a 60-minute layover. Guests can warm up by the fire, explore the area, take photos, or enjoy lunch before heading back to Durango in heated train coaches.

The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is one of the most iconic experiences in Durango and offers more than just scenic rides between Durango and Silverton. During the summer season, the railroad also provides Wilderness Access Train service, allowing hikers and backpackers to access remote trailheads like Elk Park and Needleton for backcountry adventures in the San Juan Mountains. Visitors can also explore the on-site train museum at the depot to learn more about the railroad’s history, historic locomotives, and the role it has played in Southwest Colorado for more than a century.
