Summer Durango Train Rides
The summer schedule for the Durango to Silverton train offers daily round trip service with the option to ride back on the train that afternoon or upgrade to a bus return for a scenic drive over the San Juan Skyway. Summer is a fantastic time to plan your visit to Durango, as the weather will be warm and the city will be alive with excellent festivals, events, live music and much more.

Cascade Canyon Express
May - August
The Durango train's Cascade Canyon Express is its shortest excursion to date. See the iconic canyon views aboard the diesel train on this great ride for small children or those with limited time to spare. It's the same unforgettable train experience without the all-day commitment.

Wilderness Access
May - October
For backpackers, hikers, and fishermen, a great way to ride the Durango train is on a wilderness access trip during the summer. Head out into the San Juan National Forest and Weminuche Wilderness via the Durango train, and get off in Needleton (for access to the Chicago Basin) or Elk Park (for access to the Colorado Trail). Narrow Gauge Day
May 5, 2023
Kick off the summer train season with Narrow Gauge Day (also known as Hot Dog Day) at the Durango Train Museum. This annual event in May features live music and a free picnic at the museum for all attendees. Learn all about the history of southwestern Colorado's beautiful high country and the steam locomotives that have been carrying passengers through the San Juan mountains since 1882.

Iron Horse Bicycle Classic
May 26-28, 2023
While this is not your typical Durango train event, the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic is one of Colorado’s most renowned events of the year, and one of the biggest races in the world of cycling. It's a battle of man versus machine as cyclists race the Durango train across 50 miles of breathtaking San Juan scenery. Watch it unfold for its 48th year this Memorial Day weekend.

Durango Blues Train
August 24-26, 2023
The Durango Blues Train is back in 2022. This exciting musical adnveture aboard the steam-powered train takes you through the breathtaking canyons of the San Juan National Forest. Each train features six live blues performances inside the train coaches with a festive musical environment. Each artist has their own coach, and passengers are free to dance their way from coach to coach.
