Animas River Trail
The Animas River Trail is a paved path that stretches around 10 miles along the Animas River. As you walk this path, you'll be treated to gorgous views of the nearby San Juan Mountains surrounded by beautiful trees and the flowing water. The trail also gives access to several parks and other trails around town, making it the perfect jumping off point for photography adventures.
The Strater Hotel
The Strater Hotel will catch your eye from the moment you arrive in Durango. It's iconic red and white bricked exterior makes it an incredible and very instagrammable sight in town. After you're done snapping shots of the exterior, head inside and explore Durango's living history museum. The SkySteps are a newer addition to Durango and have only been around for a few years. They link the town to the Fort Lewis College campus, with 500 steps and a 250 foot elevation gain. The steps are a gorgeous spot to photograph as they climb the side of the city. When you get to the top, you are greeted with a beautiful view of downtown Durango that you will want to grab a photo of for your Instagram account.
Mesa Verde
Mesa Verde is just a short drive from Durango and it is home to cliff dwellings created by the ancestral Puebloans over 700 years ago. The cliff dwellings are an iconic site in the area and were created from sandstone, wooden beams and mortar.
